I have always had a deep passion for history, and over time I chose to pair that passion with the analytical and writing skills I developed in my professional career. This led me to pursue work as a freelance historian—an opportunity to bring together rigorous, objective research with the subjects I care about most. In addition to my personal interest in the field, I completed formal academic training, graduating with honors in history at both the undergraduate level (Global History with a focus on European colonialism) and the graduate level (Military History with a focus on the American Revolution).
I have presented my research at several academic conferences, including the 2018 Pacific Coast Branch of the American Historical Association meeting in Santa Clara, California; the 2019 Society for Military History conference in Columbus, Ohio; and the British Commission for Military History conference in Lancaster, England, held 7–8 November 2019.
My first book, Losing America, Securing an Empire: The Rise of British Global Power in the Late 18th Century, was published in 2022 and is available through
The first book is available from McFarland Books and other retailers.
My second book, Building Empires in East Asia: Western Influence in 19th Century China and Japan, is scheduled for publication in mid to late 2026 and is currently available for pre‑order at: https://mcfarlandbooks.com/product/Building-Empires-in-East-Asia/
I created this site to share both my past research and the projects I am currently developing. Thoughtful, constructive feedback is always welcome, as it strengthens the final work.
